Gretchen Vickers

December 19, 1932 — November 20, 2021

 

     Gretchen A. Vickers, 88, formerly of Juniata, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Presbyterian Village, Hollidaysburg.

     She was born December 19, 1932, in Altoona, a daughter of the late Oscar William and Pauline (Bathurst) Lippert.  She married Daniel McNeal Vickers on December 30, 1951, in Altoona.  He preceded her in death on January 15, 2011.

     Surviving are four children; Kathleen Ann Vickers of Altoona, William Daniel (Barbara) Vickers of Altoona, Gretchen Nadeen Zartmann of Albany, NY, Eileen Joy (Steve “Bug”) Wayslak of Altoona, eight grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, one sister; Celeste Yost (Ralph) of Cape Coral, FL and a sister-in- law, Bonnie Lippert of Altoona.  She was preceded in death by two brothers; Arthur Lippert and Gerard Lippert and one sister, Trudy Jacob.

     Gretchen was a graduate of Altoona High School and was a member of Hillside Community Church in Juniata.  Her hobbies included sewing, knitting and singing.

     During her working years, she worked as a teacher at Baker School; was a secretary at the Jaffa Shrine and Red Cross, was a reading teacher at Calvary Baptist Christian Academy from 1976-1983, and at Blair County Christian School from 1983-1988.

     Friends will be received from 10a.m. to 11 a.m., on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the Hillside Community Church, 522 N. 6th Avenue, Altoona, PA  16601, where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., with Pastor Kenneth Beichler, officiating.  Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.

     In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the Parkinsons Foundation, 1359 Broadway Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018, www.parkinson.org.
