William T Carter

William T. Carter, 85, Altoona, passed away early Sunday morning at his home. 

He was born in Altoona, son of the late LeRoy and Martha (Kreps) Carter.

On June 17, 1978, he married Carol L. Beckel in Altoona.

In addition to his wife, Carol, of 45 years; he is survived by three children: Jennifer Galanick (Joseph) of Sterling, VA, Thad Carter (Yvonne) of Altoona and Melissa Berard of Pittsburgh; two granddaughters: Courtney Carter and Kirsten Carter; and a sister, Carole Taylor (Robert) of Juniata. He is also survived by two nephews: Bob Taylor (Amigh) of Altoona and Mark Taylor (Meredith) in Alexandria, VA.

William was a 1956 graduate of Altoona High School and received his associate degree in electrical technology from Penn State, Altoona. He formerly working for the PA Railroad and Conrail in the testing lab. He retired from Penn DOT as an Assistant Materials Engineer.

He was a member of Juniata United Methodist Church, the Blair County Game, Fish and Forestry Association and the Altoona Lighthouse Men’s Fellowship where he served as a board member for 25 years. He was also an instructor for 55 years for PA Hunter Safety. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

William served in the US Navy.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, PA, 16601. Friends will also be received from 10 to 11 am on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Juniata United Methodist Church, 808 N 4th Street, Altoona, PA 16601 where a funeral service will begin at 11 am with Rev. Dr. Michelle Bodle officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made to the Blair County Game, Fish and Forestry Association, 301 Riggles Gap Sportsmen Road, Altoona, PA 16601 or the Altoona Lighthouse Men’s Fellowship, 224 Woomer Road, Altoona, PA 16601.
