Verna M. Giarth

Verna M. Giarth, “Peggy”, 89, Altoona, passed away Thursday evening at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Cyrus T. and Goldie Mae (Zeigler) Swartz. On July 3, 1976 she married Melvin S. Giarth at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1980. Peggy is survived by two nieces: Linda Clapper and husband Henry, of Altoona and Phyllis Foust and husband Rick, of Greenwood. Peggy was a graduate of Altoona High School. She worked as a seamstress for Puritan/Warnaco. She was a member of the Simpson-Temple United Parish and former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Nimble Fingers sewing group. A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2019 at Blair Memorial Park Cemetery, 3234 E Pleasant Valley View Blvd., Altoona, 16601. Pastor Gary Dull officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park.
