Timothy McCaulley, 81, Altoona, peacefully passed away early Saturday morning.

He was born in Wilmington Delaware, son of the late Frances A. and Martha E. (Rabold) McCaulley.

On May 28, 1966, he married Marsha K. Menchio at Grace Methodist Church. Together, they shared 60 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, family and countless cherished memories.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marsha; a daughter, Carin Jo Yoder and husband Shawn; daughter-in-law, Justina (Vellone) McCaulley; grandchildren: Camrin Shawn Yoder (Colby), Sidnie Mykell Yoder, Evan Joseph McCaulley, and Noah Andrew McCaulley; great-grandchildren: Carter Sage Yoder and Colt Camrin Yoder; siblings: Sandra Montgomery and Jerry McCaulley; and sisters-in-law, Linda Kutz and Lou Ann Barry. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many close family friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Brian J. McCaulley; a brother, Larry McCaulley; sisters-in-law, Nancy McCaulley and Terre McCaulley; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Montgomery.

Tim was a 1962 graduate of Altoona High School. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966 as a military police officer. While stationed overseas, he also played basketball for the Air Force.

After his military service, Tim continued his education at Penn State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1971. He began his teaching career as a fourth-grade teacher at Stevens Elementary School and later Logan Elementary School. He went on to spend more than two decades supervising student teachers, helping and mentoring Penn State students as they gained classroom experience in elementary schools throughout the Altoona Area School District.

Tim continued his education by earning his master’s degree and Principal’s Certificate. He concluded his distinguished career in education as principal of Baker Elementary School.

His love of basketball began early and continued throughout his life. Tim was a member of the 1967-68 Penn State Altoona basketball team and was a key contributor to the team’s Commonwealth Campus Athletic Conference championship. Affectionately known as “Silk,” Tim hit the buzzer-beating shot that clinched the title—a moment that would remain a treasured part of his story.

An avid sports fan, Tim could often be found in the stands at area football, baseball and basketball events. As his grandchildren grew, so did the list of events he faithfully attended, including ice hockey, dance, gymnastics, soccer, music and drama. No matter the activity, Tim was always there, proudly cheering the kids on.

Beaver Stadium became his second home on Saturdays during football season, where he faithfully cheered for the Nittany Lions for 54 seasons. For many years, Tim happily shared his love of Penn State with friends and family, bringing dozens of guests along to experience the excitement and energy of “WE ARE.”

A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Tim was also a kind, generous and loyal friend. He had a genuine love for people, a passion for education and sports, and a special gift for making those around him feel supported and welcomed. His presence in the lives of his family, students, friends and community will be deeply missed, and the memories he created will be cherished for generations to come.

Family and friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., where a funeral service will begin at 7 p.m. with military honors.
