Stewart Lee Gingerich, 82, Altoona, passed away Friday.
He was born in Baltimore, MD, son of the late Irene Gingerich.
He was thrice married. He married Carol Marie Quirin who preceded him in death in October of 1963. He married Rosalie Bryar who preceded him in death in July of 1972. He married Connie Diane Hileman on May 5, 1979 in Altoona.
In addition to his wife Connie, he is survived by children: Lorie Friedenberger (Steve) of Altoona, Lisa Shellenberger (Scott) of Altoona, Stewart Gingerich, Jr. (Nora) of Bellefonte, Rodney Gingerich of Seattle and Michael Gingerich of Wilkes Barre; grandchildren, Matthew (Jasmine), Philip, Joseph, Sarah, Rosalie, Stewart, III, Scarlett, Joselynn and Annette; great grandchildren: Jace, Lincoln, Eden, Maya, Josephine, Leyna, Logan and Rylie; and a special sister-in-law, Bonnie Johnson.
He was preceded in death by a son, Damian Gingerich and siblings: Donald, Ronald, Dorothy and Charlene.
Stewart retired as a bus driver after 41 years of service from Amtran. He retired as the # 1 bus driver in the state.
He was a member of Trans4mation Church and a lifetime member of the ATU Local 801 Amalgamated Transit Union.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, Steelers and PSU football and trips to the beach. After retirement, he loved to volunteer at the local food banks and most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.
Stewart served in the US Army Reserve and US Navy.
The family would like to thank the staff at the James E Van Zandt VA Medical Center for their exceptional care.
Friends will be received from 11 am to 1 pm on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Trans4mation Church, 1001 S 1st Street, Altoona, PA 16602 where a funeral service will immediately follow at 1 pm with Pastor Jim Balzano officiating. A private interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
