Shirley Ann Straw

Shirley A. Straw, 90, Altoona, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late William D., Sr. and Ruth N. (Summers) Eisenhart. On July 11, 1953, she married the love of her life, John T. (Jack) Straw at First Baptist Church, Altoona. He preceded her in death on December 2, 2000.

Mrs. Straw was a 1950 graduate of Altoona High School. Upon graduation, she was secretary for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. At various times, she worked for an Alderman, the American General Life Insurance Company and in later life was a tour guide for Rouzer Tours. But her primary career was that of homemaker, fulfilling her greatest joy and blessing of life, that being her family and grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had no greater joy than to hear that her children walked in truth-3 John 1:4.

She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Altoona where she served as a teacher to young people for over 40 years. She also served in the Reaping Food Ministry. She enjoyed roller-skating, crafts, music and square dancing.

She is survived by three daughters: Susan Orr (Joseph) in OH, Pamela Auker (Jeffrey) in OH and Jennifer Longstreth (Donald) of Altoona. Also surviving is a brother, William D. Eisenhart, Jr. (Jytte) of Altoona. A sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Pete Cogan preceded her in death.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Stephanie Readnower (James), Benjamin Stallard (Angela), Joseph Orr (Renee), Melissa Hummel (Chad), John Auker (Megan), Wesley Auker (Melissa), Crystal Parry (Evan), Mitchell Longstreth and Emily Longstreth; and ten great grandchildren: Victora, Eliot, Mara, Piper, Nora, Liam, JJ, Jack, Olivia and Ella.

Friends will be received from 11 am to 1 pm on Monday, December 5, 2022 at First Baptist Church, 1209 17th Street, Altoona, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 1 pm with Pastor Tyler Pepper officiating. Arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Altoona Reaping Food Ministry, 1209 17th Street, Altoona, PA 16601.
