Shelly embodied many traits over the course of her life, though she is best known for having been a proud US Navy veteran, wife, mother, and Mimi.
Shelly Lynn Fisher, 63, of Altoona, PA, died at her home on January 7, 2024. Shelly was born in Jamestown, NY in 1960 to Ralph and Ruth Wallace, Sr. She was one of five children.
Shelly obtained her GED from Randolph Central School in 1978 before joining the US Navy, from which she retired after serving 19 years. The Navy gave Shelly the opportunity to see some of the world and eventually brought her to Altoona, where she met her husband and partner of 35 years, Kevin. Shelly and Kevin met in 1989 while playing pool, would soon give one another weird nicknames, and eventually legitimized their daughter by marrying on January 11, 1999. Shelly brought a daughter, Rachel, and a son, Gregory, to the union while Kevin brought a son, Brian, before having a daughter, Shelby, together in 1992. Shelby made them Mimi and Pappy with the birth of Owen in 2011 and Elizabeth in 2014. Rachel and her husband, Bobby, would add Oliver to the circus in 2019.
Since her retirement, Shelly worked a variety of jobs, eventually becoming a stay-at-home Mimi in 2012. She shared her love of refinishing old furniture, gardening, and lawn care with her daughters and grandchildren.
Shelly will be remembered for her love of music, sense of humor, love for her family, willingness to share her milk and cookies, and the way she’d reenact a hoedown when laughing with strangers. She will be missed so very much by her friends and family.
Shelly was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Ruth, and a sister, Tammy.
She is survived by her husband, Kevin; children, Rachel (Robert), Gregory, and Shelby; a stepson, Brian; her brothers, Ralph Jr. (April), Daniel (Patricia), and Timothy (Lisa); a sister, Amy (Michael); and her grandchildren, Owen, Elizabeth, and Oliver.
Shelly requested there be no viewing or service. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 starting at 4 pm at the Juniata VFW, 126 N 16th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601. Military honors will take place at 5 pm with a bagpipe tribute to follow. Please plan accordingly so to not disturb the honors during this time.
