Sheldon D. Knouse

March 12, 1929 — April 7, 2022

Sheldon D. Knouse, 93, Altoona, went to be with the Lord Thursday morning at the Presbyterian Village in Duncansville.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Elmer E. and Elizabeth M. (Schultz) Knouse. On June 5, 1953, he married Norma Lorraine Gunsalus at Calvary Baptist Church in Altoona. They celebrated 68 years of marriage together.

He is survived by two sons: Randy Mark and wife Dana and S. Dwight II and Lew Ann; all of Altoona; daughter-in-law, Wendy Knouse of Texas; three granddaughters: Ashley Nicole Culverhouse (Joe), Elizabeth Ann Winquist (Matthew) and Emily Joy Wiest (Scott); and seven great grandchildren.

Sheldon was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Kent and he was the last surviving of five siblings. He was preceded in death by siblings: John E., Melvin E., Arlene M. Piper, and Ruth Ann Weberg.

He was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School. He began serving a machinist apprenticeship with the PA Railroad for four years with a two year stint in the Army from Nov. 1950 to Nov. 1952. He served at the A.A.A. Headquarters Battalion as a Radio Operator.

He worked for N. Grant Nickolas and later worked as a Job Captain for Hayes Large Architects where he retired on March 31, 1990 after 25 years of service.

He was a Charter Member of Faith Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Church Treasurer, and Sunday School Teacher. He served on the Board of Blair Christian Home for 25 years, where he was twice president of the board and was designer for five building expansions for the home. He most recently attended Grace Bible Church. He enjoyed gardening in the summer and woodworking in the winter but most of all he enjoyed serving his Lord in the local church. He served many capacities through the years with Prov. 3:5-6 as his guide through life.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Presbyterian Home and staff for their exceptional care over the years. They would also like to express their gratitude to Grace Bible Church and Faith Baptist Church.

Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11 am on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata, where a funeral service will be held at 11 am with Pastor Daren Ritchey officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Pennsylvania Christian Institute/Way Truth Life Radio, 2020 Cato Avenue, State College, PA 16801.
