Russell F. Ellenberger

Russell F. Ellenberger, 78, Altoona, went home to be with his Lord and Savior late Thursday evening.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Victor M. and Marjorie (Carling) Ellenberger.

Russ is survived by his devoted wife, Pam, and their four children: John Ellenberger, and wife Kristen Spencer of Fairfax, VA; Kristen John of Hollidaysburg; Kelly Bassler, and husband Dusty of Martinsburg; and Beth Macak, and husband Adam of Roaring Spring. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Kendyl, Jaime, Emma, Cooper, Austin, Andy, and Lucy; along with siblings Susie, Lisa, and Mark, and his special nephew, Gary Hatch.

Russ retired from Conrail, where he had a successful career as a carpenter and welder.

A respected member of his community, he was actively involved in Holy Rosary Church, serving as an Eucharistic minister. Additionally, he was a proud member of the Juniata VFW and held the position of President of the local Ostomy Club. He also enjoyed his time at the Buccinese Society.

In his leisure time, Russell enjoyed fishing, camping, and enthusiastically attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Known for his sense of humor, he was a talented joke teller. His passion for sports extended to coaching basketball and baseball for many years, as well as umpiring and refereeing.

Russ had a deep love for the Lord and was a dedicated prayer warrior.

He served in the United Sates Air Force.

Family and friends will be received from 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Holy Rosary Church, 900 4th Street, Altoona, PA 16602 with Father Nelson Javier T.O.R.
