Ronald E Long

Ronald E. (Ron) Long, 84, Hollidaysburg, went to be with the Lord Sunday morning, September 26, 2021, at UPMC-Altoona Hospital.

He was born December 29, 1936 in Altoona, a son of the late C. Edward and Grace H. (Nothnagle) Long and on November 20, 1959 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Altoona he married Shirley J. Helsel.

Surviving are his wife Shirley, of almost 62 years, one sister, Ann Harr and husband Terry of Claysburg and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Homer, two sisters, Jean Pruyn and Peggy Brubaker and nephew, Todd Long.

Ron was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg, and previously was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Altoona for many years.  He served on various Grace church committees and was a member of the choir for many years.

He graduated from Altoona High School in 1954.

Ron worked at the PennDOT District Office in Hollidaysburg for 30 years, retiring as a Permit Supervisor on October 5, 1995.

Ron was an avid fan of Penn State Athletics and the Pittsburg Steelers.  For many years he enjoyed traveling extensively, camping and winters in Florida and also enjoyed reading his Bible every day. He also enjoyed his word search puzzles.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the 4 p.m., funeral service on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church, 801 Allegheny Street, Hollidaysburg, PA  16648, with Pastor John Godissart, officiating.  Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park.
