Ronald J. Vipond, 70, of Altoona, passed away peacefully Saturday at the James E. Van Zandt Medical Center.

Ronald was born in Altoona, the son of the late Ronald and Florence (Crissman) Vipond.

Ronald will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Nicole Crotsley and her husband, Brian, of Huntingdon, and Erica Wood and her husband, Bill, of Lanse. He leaves behind grandchildren Bradley, Ryan and Julia Wood, Jacinda Kormanic and her husband, Josh, and Braden Newby; step-grandchildren Lexi, Kendel, Matthew and Brynn Crotsley; and his beloved great-granddaughter, Adalyn Kormanic. He is also survived by his sisters, Veronica Vipond and Deborah Long and her husband, Robert; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends who held a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Nadine Vipond and Bonnie Weierick.

Ronald proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Following his military service, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and took pride in the life he built and the home he cared for.

Ronald enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors, working in his yard and taking care of things around his home. He was happiest when he was busy and surrounded by the people and things he loved.

More than anything, Ronald loved his family. His daughters, grandchildren and great-granddaughter were a source of tremendous joy and pride. He treasured every moment spent with them and especially loved being a great-grandfather. The memories he created with his family, along with his kindness, friendship and the love he gave so freely, will remain in their hearts and be cherished for years to come.

Ronald was also a generous man who believed in helping others. Throughout his life, he supported many nonprofit organizations, several of which held special meaning to him. In his memory, donations may be made to the James E. Van Zandt Medical Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or Wounded Warrior Project.

At Ronald’s request, there will be no public services. Arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc.
