Obituary

Ronald Lee Ecker Sr., 88, of Altoona, peacefully entered the presence of our Lord on June 11, 2026. Born in Hollidaysburg, to Paul and Grace Ecker, Ron lived a life defined by faith, loyalty and hard work; with a sense of humor and smile that could light up any room.

Ron graduated from Altoona High School and went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he built a notable career as a welder, working at Berwind White’s, Samuel Rea Railroad Car Shops, and later with Conrail of Altoona. He was a man who took great pride in his craft and built a reputation for excellence, earning him the respect of his peers.

Ron was an avid fan of Penn State football, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pirates. (We had them all the way!) He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, pinochle, puzzles and had a loving heart for dogs.

Above all, Ron had an unwavering devotion to his family. His greatest joys in life were those he so deeply loved. He leaves behind his loving wife, Shirley, of 63 years; daughter, Lynda (Dave) Albright of Saxton; son, Ron (Renee) Ecker of Lynn Haven, Fla.; granddaughters, Amber and Ashley; grandson, Adam; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Noah and Zoe; as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own.

Ron was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Paul and Grace; brothers: Paul, Jim, Johnny, (his identical twin) Don and Ray; and sister, Jane.

While our family grieves the loss of a loyal husband, Dad, Pappy, uncle and friend, we do not grieve without hope. We rejoice in the promise of eternal life, knowing we will someday be reunited again. Until then, we will cherish the countless memories of love, laughter and kindness Ron so freely gave to everyone.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2026, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 806 11th St., Altoona, with Father Frank Scornaienchi.

Arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Altoona.
