Robert John Mayernick

April 8, 1928 — October 30, 2021

Robert John Mayernick went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2021. He died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Lilly, PA, on Easter Sunday — a son of Michael and Anna (Washchalk) Mayernick. On July 24, 1954, he married his sweetheart, the late Barbara Pearl (Lindemer) Mayernick, who preceded him in death on March 21, 2021.

John is survived by a son, Jeffrey, of Altoona, and a daughter Michele (Ford) McNutt, of State College. Grandchildren: Michael and Cheyenne Mayernick; Sarah, Patrick, and Nicholas McNutt. Surviving are his siblings William (Mary) Mayernick, Agnes Turchetta, Rose (Merrill) Troxell, Mary Mayernick, Dorothy Mallin, Catherine Mayernick, Charles Mayernick, Donald Mayernick, and Eileen Mayernick. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Caracciolo, and a brother, Richard Mayernick.

In his youth, John enjoyed playing outdoors with his siblings and going to the movies at the Juniata Theatre, using money earned from delivering newspapers. He graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1946. From 1950-1952, John served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Augsburg, Germany. He worked in sales at Altoona Manufacturing Company and then as a forklift operator at PPG Industries, before retiring in 1993. John was a member of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and the weekly cleaning crew. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and attending Altoona Curve baseball games. One of “Pap’s” greatest joys was spending time with his loved ones, especially his five grandchildren. His devotion to his family was infinite.

The family would like to thank his caregivers from Integrity Home Health Care, especially Khrissy, Diane, and Sharlene, for providing him with such loving and compassionate care, as well as Sherry from Blair Senior Services Inc. for her dedication and support.

Friends will be received from 5–8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc. 719 N. 4th Avenue, Juniata. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Altoona with Fr. Timothy Grimme officiating.

The family requests all COVID-19 protocols and precautions be followed for safety, including masking.
