Richard E. “Dick” Mitchell, 79, Altoona, passed away Sunday at his home.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Lester and Kathryn (Estep) Mitchell. He married Terry Cowher in Altoona in 1965.

In addition to his wife, Terry, of 58 years, he is survived by two sons: Grant and Brian, both of Altoona.

Dick retired after 31 years of service from Norfolk Southern as a machinist and foreman. He owned and operated Dick’s Train Store in Juniata for many years and also spun as DJ Spinner for 15 years. He was a member of the Alto Model Train Association, Inc. He enjoyed his many friends and the members of the two local model train clubs and his loving family.

He served two years in the US Navy as a Radar man.

Friends will be received from 11 am to 1 pm on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona 16601. Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park.
