Raymond C. Nebgen, 89, of Altoona, passed away peacefully late Saturday evening, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Ralph and Anna Louise (Stitzell) Nebgen.

On April 26, 1975, he married the love of his life, Susan C. Rinehart, with whom he shared more than 51 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

In addition to his devoted wife, Susan, he is survived by three daughters: Cheri Frederick and her husband, Scott, of Riggles Gap, Shannon Boyle and her husband, Joe, of Beaverdale, and Jessica Nebgen. Affectionately known as "Pappy Ray," he was a proud and loving grandfather to four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy. He is also survived by two sisters, Betty Burd and Marlene Lingenfelter; many loving bonus children, nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart; and his beloved cats, along with the many neighborhood animals he faithfully cared for and fed over the years.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Nebgen.

Raymond was a graduate of Altoona High School and Williamsport Technical School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army before beginning a long and dedicated career as a service engineer with Siemens, from which he retired.

Raymond found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He attended Sinking Valley Rifle and Gun Club and he enjoyed target shooting and spending time outdoors. He took great pride in restoring his 1930 Ford Model A Roadster, which earned numerous awards at area car shows and reflected his remarkable craftsmanship and attention to detail. Some of his favorite days were spent fishing alongside his longtime friend and fishing buddy, Russ Lance.

Above all, Raymond will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and the quiet ways he cared for those around him—whether it was spending time with family, lending a helping hand, or making sure no hungry animal left his yard. His love for his family, friends, and animals left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and countless cherished memories that will be treasured for years to come.

Family and friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N. Fourth Avenue, Altoona, where military honors will be accorded at 7 p.m.
