Obituary

Phyllis Pfahler Woodring, also known as Nana, formally of Juniata, passed away Thursday, April 23rd.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Philip and Rose Cipriano Sanchez.

She married David Woodring, July 1st 1963 in Winchester, VA. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2015.

Also preceding her in death was her daughter, Kim Woodring Snyder on May 21st, 2008.

Surviving are her sons: Edward Pfahler and wife Betsy of Texas; Ronald Pfahler of Altoona and Philip Pfahler of Altoona; and grandson, William Snyder who was raised in the home; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; seven brothers and sisters: Rudy Sanchez (deceased), Delores Tarver of Ohio, Lucy Eichkoff of Summit Hill, Clara Lynam of Altoona, Toni Kwiatkowski of Pittsburgh, Philip Sanchez Jr. and wife Barbara of Duncansville, and William Sanchez (deceased).

Phyllis was a loving Mother and Nana, sister and friend to many. To her family she was an angel on earth with a strong Faith and loved by everyone who met her. She loved cooking and baking for her family, crocheting and crafts.

Phyllis was employed by the Altoona shoe factory, domestic work, and was an aide helping handicapped children at Juniata Methodist Church. Phyllis was an assistant Sacristan and taught CCD classes for 11 years at Holy Rosary Church.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

She will be missed by all. 

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, 16601.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 806 11th Avenue, Altoona, 16601 with Father Frank Scornaiehchi, T.O.R. officiating. Interment will be made at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Phyllis' memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
