Norman Frederick Goetz

Norman Frederick Goetz, 78, Altoona, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona.

He married Judy Shiffler. She preceded him in death on October 1, 2010.

He is survived by five children: Jeff Goetz (Louise) of Houston, TX, Doug Bane (Michelle) of Frederick, MD, William Bane (Roni) of Boonsboro, MD, Jennifer Nickodam (Roger) of Kings Port, TN and Scott Shiffler (Diane) of Altoona; grandchildren: Henry, Beatrice, Brandon, Emily, Carli, Lexi, Camdon, Cody, Sarah, Abby, Johnnie, Scott II, Renee and Matt; great grandchildren: Colby, Layla, Kyson, Avery, Evan, Olivia, Leah, Maverick, Vivien and Allen, Jr.; and a sister, Donna Berkheimer (Lou).

He was preceded in death by a son, Norman, Jr. and two brothers: Donald and Gordon Goetz.

Norman worked as a construction project manager for numerous companies. 

He was a member of Mt Nebo United Methodist Church in Boonsboro, MD, the Bavarian Aid Society, the Unter Uns Society and the Buccinese Bocce Ball Club. He was avid poker player, hack golfer, loved to drive and travel and loved his family.

We imagine Norman (Pappy) speeding around heaven playing golf and gambling at the casino in the sky while never missing a Friday night poker tournament. Pappy will be forever missed and never forgotten, but we are so happy for Pappy to be reunited with the love of his life, his late wife Judy, his late son Norman Jr., and his loyal brother Donald (Doc), and all of his loved ones that paved the path before him.

A Celebration of Life for Norman will be held from 5 to 9 pm on Friday, August 2, 2024, at the Bavarian Aid Society, 112 South 13th Street, Altoona, PA 16602. The family hopes that everyone who wants to share their memories of Norman will attend the Celebration of Life for a wonderful human. 

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to any of the following organizations on Norman's behalf: American Heart Association, American Stroke Association or The Bavarian Aid Society.
