Naomi Ruth Yon

Naomi Ruth “Frankie” (Franks) Yon, 98, Altoona, passed away Thursday at Garvey Manor Nursing Home.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Fred Semph and Grace E. (Wallace) Franks. On March 17, 1949, she married Clarence J. Yon, Jr. at the 1st Methodist Church in Altoona. He preceded her in death on October 6, 2003.

She is survived by a son, Jon C. (Roxann) Yon of Altoona; grandchildren: Jeremy (Melissa) Yon of Cleveland, OH and Dr. Jendy (Michael) Harer of Williamsport; great grandchildren: Avery, Emily and Lindsay Harer and Parker Yon; and sisters: Marjorie (Franks) Yingling of Altoona, Helen (Franks) Aikens of Hollidaysburg and Martha (Franks) Fagan of Huntingdon.

She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Janet (Bergstrom) Yon and siblings: Martin L. Franks and Dorothy (Franks) Grove.

Frankie was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1945 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing where she received a degree to become a Registered Nurse. She worked as an Industrial Nurse at Crane Co. (formerly National Radiator Co.), Wye Switches in Duncansville.

She was a 50 year member of the former 1st United Methodist Church in Altoona. She was also a member of the Blair County Genealogy Society, the Juniata Gap Volunteer Fire Company and the Juniata Gap Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, the Order of the Eastern Star-Chapter 290 and the Altoona/Mercy Hospitals Nurses Alumni Association. She also served in the National Nurse Cadet Corps from 1944 to 1945.

She enjoyed genealogy, RV Camping and volunteering at the Altoona Hospital and Garvey Manor gift shops for over 30 years.

Friends will be received from 3 to 5pm on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 5 pm with Pastor Grace Marie Ransom officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Garvey Manor Nursing Home, 1037 S Logan Blvd., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
