Mary Carmella (Misciagna) Carnell, 100, of Altoona, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17. 2026, at UPMC-Altoona.
Born on July 25, 1925, in Altoona, Mary was the daughter of Gennaro and Josephine (Matino) Misciagna. On August 11, 1945, she married the love of her life, Donald E. Carnell, Sr., at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Juniata. Together, Mary and Don were the epitome of true, everlasting love, They were longtime members of the Cathedral of the-Blessed Sacrament and Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Altoona.
Mary was blessed with a large and loving family, the center of her world. She is survived by her son, Donald Camell, Jr. (Dianne); grandchildren Tanya A. Scaramozzino (Mark), Scott A. Chamberlain (Cheryl). Donald Camell III, Tracy Fischer (Shawn), and Thomas Jackson (Kris); and great-grandchildren Jordan (fiancé, Jacob Owens) and Trenton McCormick, Nick Scaramozzino, Dylan Chamberlain and Liam (Jazzlyn) Mulligan, Rayna, Reese, and Maddox Fischer, and Tommy and Noah Jackson. Mary is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved deeply.
She is also survived by her brother, Nicholas Misciagna and sister Dolores Johnston.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Donald E. Carnell, Sr.: her daughter, Donna M. Chamberlain; son-in-law, Thomas F. Chamberlain: sisters Esther (Lawrence) Dorazio, Evelyn (Clair) Urbank, Edith Altiero, and Josephine Haselbarth; and brothers Chester, Jerry, John (Lois), Michael, and Rocco Misciagna.
A devoted military wife. Mary took great pride in supporting her husband's service and in nurturing the family they built together. She found her greatest joy simply being surrounded by those she loved. Her warmth, strength, and unwavering devotion will be forever cherished.
Family and friends will be received from 6 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona.
Friends will also be received from 9 am to 10 am on Wednesday, April 22 at the funeral home where a funeral service will immediately begin at 10 am.
Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
