M. Margaret Gutshall

June 24, 1925 — March 8, 2024

Mary Margaret "Peggy" Gutshall, 98, of Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of Hollidaysburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday. She was born in Hollidaysburg, a daughter of the late Harry W. and Mary Ann (Benton) Crain.

She married Gerald J. Gutshall on Nov. 15, 1941, in Winchester, Va. He preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 2009.

Peggy is survived by four children: Cheryl L. McDonald (Michael) of Kansas City, Mo., Gerald J. "Erro" (Swee) of Altoona, Vernon S. "Corky" (Susie) of Hollidaysburg, and Timothy J. (Stacy) of Altoona; a son-in-law, David Kline, of State College; eight grandchildren: Cory and Greg Kline, LeAnne Christiansen, Holly Sue Kerns, Courtney Kerns, Nicole DiBacco, Kristie Kennedy and Somya Gutshall; and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her 100 year old sister, S. Jean Pittman of Hollidaysburg.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Kline; a granddaughter, Whitney Gutshall; and two sisters, Ethel Reisinger and Dorothy Rogers.

Peggy was a member of the Alliance Church of Altoona, and former member of First United Methodist Church, Altoona. At First United Methodist Church, she taught Adult Bible Classes for 35 years.

She was previously an active member and past president of the Women’s Club of Altoona. She served on various advisory boards for Blair Senior Services. She was previously a member of the Altoona Duplicate Bridge Club and became a Senior Life member.

Peggy enjoyed knitting, reading, travel and journalism. She was previously an active member of Jobel Court and enjoyed their affiliation with Shriners Hospitals and their aid to children with special needs.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., 719 N. Fourth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. James F. Neatrour officiating. Entombment will take place at Alto-Reste Park.
