Louise Bryson

July 26, 1947 — January 14, 2023

Louise Bryson, 75, of Altoona, passed away peacefully the morning of January 14, 2023 at her home.

Born Ann Louise Cabala in Portage, PA, she was one of four children born to Joseph and Mary Cabala.

She first married James Bryson with whom she had four children. Sherry Lynn, whom died only one month after birth, Cindy (Convery) married to Frank, Sandra, and Jim married to Kitina (Hough).

In 1987 she met her forever soulmate, David Gillin of Mineral Point, PA.  They married and made their home in Altoona.  Their fur babies are Rascal, a kitten she rescued from a drain pipe 18 years ago, and Mickey, a feisty but loveable Springer Spaniel.

Louise’s love of life bloomed with the birth of her grandchildren; Cody, Evan and Edyn (Convery) and Joshua and Brock (Bryson). Rarely did she miss a baseball game or softball game and could usually be seen on the sidelines watching intently and cheering them on.  She was a loyal Pittsburgh Pirates fan and usually between the months of April and September when you called her you could bet she was watching the game. She loved holiday traditions and birthday celebrations. She made the best Christmas nut-roll and was an amazing cook always preparing a tasty home-made meal. She was an avid gardener and could always be seen in the yard tending to her flower beds.

Her first job was with Tupperware where she could always be seen driving the wood paneled station wagon that was provided for her. From there she went on to manage Tempo fashions for many years. After that she found her true passion for work when she became a grief counselor at Calvary Cemetery. Her compassion for those suffering loss of a loved one was remarkable and to this day people still ask for her even though she retired 10 years ago.

The world will not be the same without Louise as she was loved by so many.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc.
