Lois Ann Stessney, 93, Altoona, passed away peacefully Saturday at UPMC Altoona, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Patrick J. and Erna F. (Henderson) Allen.
On September 18, 1964, she married Walter J. Stessney in Altoona. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She is survived by three sons: Thomas Myers and wife, Patrice of Mehoopany; Stefan Stessney and wife, Shelley of Altoona and Timothy Stessney and wife, Christine of Altoona; grandchildren: Brian, Allison, Olivia, Taylor, Devin, Samuel, Emmett, Kennedy and Madison; numerous loving great grandchildren; and a brother, Jerome Allen. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and her dear friend, Lisa Ruffley.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William Allen (Rita Aileen); a sister, Mary Jean Perry; and a sister-law-law, Jane Allen.
A proud graduate of Altoona Catholic High School in 1950, Lois furthered her passion for care by earning her degree from Penn State University in 1991. She devoted her career to nursing, retiring in 2010 as a Registered Nurse from Altoona Hospital, where her compassion touched many lives.
Lowie’s heart was beautifully tied to her heritage and her family. She delighted in taking trips to Ireland to visit relatives and found joy in gathering loved ones around the table, sharing the warmth of her lovingly prepared meals. Her commitment to community was reflected in her membership with the Daughters of Erin and her active involvement with the League of Women Voters and the local Democratic Party.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, 16601. Inurnment will be made at Calvary Cemetery.
