L. Jean Burchfield Lambert

September 21, 1923 — April 17, 2021

L. Jean Burchfield Lambert, 97, Altoona, passed away Saturday morning at her home.

She was born in Biggsville, IL, daughter of the late Page and Hazelle (Graham) Randall. She was twice married. On July 28, 1946 she married Russell Burchfield, Jr. in Biggsville, IL and he preceded her in death on June 25, 1971. On February 14, 1989 she married Milton Louis “Lou” Lambert at the Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Juniata and he preceded her in death on February 15, 2011.

She is survived by five children: Jean Ann Rupp of Duncansville, Jane A. Schwebke and husband Brion of Swansea, IL, Joan Conway and husband Paul of Altoona, James R. Burchfield and wife Margie of Juniata Gap, and Jeffrey Randall Burchfield and wife Kristine of Chantilly, VA; a step-son, Michael Lambert and wife Cathy of Altoona; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Gray of Gladstone, IL.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Graham Randall and Page Randall.

Jean was a 1941 graduate of Biggsville High School, a 1946 graduate of Western Illinois State Teachers College, and a 1974 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a Master of Ed in Home Economics Education. She retired after 19 years of service from the Altoona Area School District where she worked as a Home Economics teacher. She also taught in Henderson County, IL in 1943 and 1944, as an elementary teacher and taught courses in nutrition and diet therapy in the Altoona Hospital Practical Nursing Program from 1961 to 1966.

She was a member of the Delphi Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Pennsylvania Association of School Employees and past director of Region 5 of PA Association of School Employees. She enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, quilting, playing cards and games, and traveling; she has traveled to all 50 states, Europe, Asia, South America and the Caribbean Islands.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 9:30 until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service at the Juniata United Methodist Church, 808 N 4th Street, Altoona, 16601 with Pastor Julia Piper officiating. Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc.
