Altoona

June Metz, age 89, from Mill Creek, PA, entered into eternal rest Friday, September 8, 2023, at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Juniata - Altoona with her twin brother Ralph, on June 4, 1934. Daughter of the late Charles M. and Miriam D. (Bossert) White. She married Thomas R. Metz on September 30, 1978, in Juniata at St. John's Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death in 2018.

June was a proud Girl Scout in her youth and a graduate of Altoona Area High School Class of 1952. During her Senior year, she served as a Yellow Jacket at the Altoona Hospital after school. She graduated from the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing in June of 1955 as a Registered Nurse. She was employed at the Altoona Hospital in the Maternity Department from 1955 to 1959. She then was employed by Doctors Taylor, Stocker, & Deitrick from 1959 to 1978. June was a lifetime member of the Altoona Hospital Nurses Alumni and a proud 8-Gallon+ Blood Donor.

She attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Juniata until her marriage, then St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Allensville, PA. She taught Sunday School at St. John's and was a member of the choir.

She enjoyed the farm life, helping with milking and farming. She also enjoyed sharing her nursing skills with the neighbors. Some of her many talents include making fudge, baking, canning, and knitting Christmas stockings, dishcloths, and hats for newborns - which she donated to area hospitals.

June truly enjoyed the company of family and friends, including the many very special nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors, and long-time childhood friend Darlene Rose of Juniata. She was a resident of Graystone Manor in Bellemeade since October 2019, where she was loved and cared for by all.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Miriam White; infant brothers, her twin Ralph Alden and William Henry; sisters, Mary Ellen Herrold, Miriam L. Winters, and Elizabeth J. Wilbur R.N.; brothers, Charles M. White Jr., Harry M. White, and Lamar “Coke” White; two nephews, Steven White of Ohio and Stanley Herrold of Centre Hall, PA.
