Obituary

Joseph Weston Graffius, 89, Altoona, resident of Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg, passed away Wednesday.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Homer B. and Myrtle R. (Stoner) Graffius.

He was a 1954 graduate of Altoona High School and where he spent his growing up years surrounded by many friends.

After completing jump school at Fort Campell, KY, Weston served with the 11th Airborne Division in Germany. After a three year stint in the US Army, he went on to graduate from Penn State University in 1963 with a BS in Electrical Engineering.

His career took him around the world; including France, England, Australia, Canada, and numerous cities in the US. Much of his work consisted of design and development, systems engineering and program management leadership on classified programs for the F-111 fighter bomber, F-15 air superior fighter, B-1 Bomber and the Space Shuttle. He was employed by General Dynamics, Rochester, NY; McDonnell Douglas, St. Louis, MO; Honeywell, Minneapolis, MN; and finally as a Visiting Scientist at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA. While at CMU, he taught in numerous US cities, Toronto and Vancouver, Canada, Paris, France, London, England, and Melbourne, Australia. He was blessed with an interesting career working on many state-of-the-art programs. He truly enjoyed his work.

Weston enjoyed playing golf, bridge and attending musical events as time permitted. He was an avid fan of Penn State University football and supported the university financially through several scholarship programs.

In June of 2004, Weston married Carole Sue (McCune) Daski, his high school sweetheart, who is a dedicated dog lover.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a half-brother, Duane Graffius in Greenbackville, VA.

Weston was the youngest and last surviving of seven siblings. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Shirley Morris, Dorothy Forsht, Marie Katcher and Virginia Hamilton and his brothers: Robert Graffius, John Graffius (infant) and Charles Graffius.

The family would like to thank Pinnacle Hospice for their exceptional care; especially Scott and Joe.

Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 am on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, where a Memorial Service will immediately follow at 11 am with Steve Katcher officiating. Interment will be made at later date at Grandview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Engineering Pioneer Trustee Scholarship at Penn State Altoona. Checks can be made to: Penn State Altoona, Engineering Pioneer Trustee Fund.
