John F. Belin, Sr., 89, Altoona, passed away early Thursday morning at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Beccaria, son of the late Edward J. and Elizabeth (Ribnikar) Belin. On June 17, 1963, he married Norma J. Wright in Winchester, VA. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2018.
He is survived by seven children: Denise Imler (Dana) of Hollidaysburg, Shelley Mouzakis (Jim) in CA, Barry Wible of Tyrone, Darrin Wible (Karen) of Carrolltown, Carla Ruscio (Mike) of Sinking Valley, John Belin, Jr. of Emmaus, and Carl “Doug” Belin of Sinking Valley; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and three sisters: Maggie Dodson, Mary Hartsock and Carol Keagy, all of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Cody Belin; brothers: Ed, Carl and George; and a sister, Jane Harn.
John retired on January 1, 1993, after 40 years of service from Stroehmann’s Bakery where he worked as a Sales Manager.
He was an active member of St. Matthew’s Church in Tyrone where he attended mass daily. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved animals, especially his beloved companions, who preceded him in death, Chester and Coco. He enjoyed his tractors, doing yard work, and playing cards. He was affectionately known as “Bad Pap” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His favorite place to be was surrounded by his family.
He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army.
A funeral mass with military honors will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Monday, October 17, 2022 at St. Matthew’s Church, 1105 Cameron Ave, Tyrone, PA 16686. Inurnment will be made at Grandview Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
