John Franklin Barney

John Franklin Barney, 84, Altoona, passed away Sunday evening at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Blandburg, PA, son of the late Joseph Franklin Barney and Ellen Patricia (Igou) Harren. On July 20, 1968, he married Ilene Marie Smith at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Altoona. In addition to his wife, Ilene, of 51 years; he is survived by a son, Timothy Barney (Angela) of Ellenville, NY; a brother, Francis Barney (Claire) of Sinking Valley; two half siblings: Katy Stein (Tom) of Florida and John William “Bill” Harren (Mona) of Altoona; close family friends: Charlie and Karan Rutherford and Bill and Belinda Rhodes; and his beloved companion, Angel. John served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was a train enthusiast. Private family services will be held. Interment will take place at Blair Memorial Park Cemetery, Antis Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Blair Unit, 1004 North Juniata Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
