James Robert Wood, 77, Altoona, passed away Friday evening at Garvey Manor Nursing Home after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Oscar Eugene and Edith Rosena (Dryburgh) Wood. He married Donna Marie (Kitt) Wood, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by a daughter, Dana Winand and husband Jason of Altoona; two grandchildren: Ashley Wyatt and Brady Winand; and two great grandchildren: Asher and Emberlyn Wyatt. He was also survived by Dana’s mother, Barbara Boese.
He was a 1963 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1967 graduate of California State College.
James was an industrial arts teacher at Juniata Valley School District for 36 years and Pottstown High School for five years.
He owned Wood Sharpening Service and Sales in Sinking Valley from 1974 to 2005.
James enjoyed woodworking, home improvement, photography, collecting model cars, sprint car races and all things automobiles including: auto mechanics, auto body and auto paint, restoring cub cadet tractors and antique cars including 13 Volkswagen Beatles and a 1956 Ford F-100. He also enjoyed attending York and Carlisle Car Shows. James was a member of the Lions Club, the Jaffa Shriners and Altoona Antique Auto Club.
Friends will be received from 11 am until Noon on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at Noon. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park.
