Herbert E. “Herb” Detrich, aged 78, of Altoona, peacefully passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Friday, embraced by his faith and love for his Lord and Savior.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Herb and Agnus (Boyles) Detrich.
On October 21, 1967, he married Deborah “Debbie” L. Baker.
In addition to his loving wife of 58 years; he is survived by two sons: Mark (Tracy) in NC and Mathew of Altoona; two granddaughters: Ariel and Victoria (Daniel) Thorndike; and one great granddaughter, Sloane Thorndike; all in NC; a sister, Polly Holup (Ronald) of Pittsburgh; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sisters-in-law: Bonnie Kaup and Diania Young; and a brother-in-law, Jason Baker.
Herb was a 1965 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1967 graduate of Penn State University, majoring in electronics.
He began his career at HRB Singer in State College and after working for JCP as an electronics technician. He opened Keystone Service Center, after which he worked at PSU until retirement.
He was a member of Grace Alive Church. He enjoyed listening to Diesel Creek and Shiphappens, electronics, antique cars and Bible study. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing his wealth of knowledge. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He retired from the United States Navy Reserve.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona.
Family and friends will also be received from 10 to 11 am at the funeral home where a funeral service will immediately follow at 11 am. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Alive Church of Altoona, 1540 E Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA 16602.
