Gertrude “Honey” Mary Jane Shumaker, 95, Altoona, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late George W. and Margaret Ellen (Wills) Pelton.
On June 12, 1948, she married George Shumaker in Cumberland, MD. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1992.
Honey is survived by her children: Linda Pretola, Judy Rice, Daniel Shumaker and Mike Shumaker; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Foster.
She was preceded in death by her son George Shumaker, Jr. and her three sisters.
Honey cherished the time spent with her loved ones. She enjoyed various hobbies, including shopping, painting watercolors, baking, and dining out. Known for her sense of humor, Honey often delighted in playful pranks with her grandchildren.
In addition to her family life, Honey was a former member of the VFW Juniata Auxiliary and dedicated her time to volunteering with various organizations throughout the years.
Honey will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who will carry her memory within their hearts until they meet again.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 pm on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata where a funeral service will begin at 4 pm. Interment will be made at Carson Valley Cemetery, Duncansville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
