Gary D. Kimmel, 82, Altoona, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday.
He was born in Claysburg, son of the late Ross and Mildred (Burket) Kimmel.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra J. (Rhoades) Peterman Kimmel, of 42 years; children: Doug Kimmel (Mark), Annette Morris (David), Chris Smith, Brad Peterman (Nannett) and Alfred Peterman; grandchildren: Michael, Timmy, Seth (Ashley), Travis (Alli) and Breonna; great grandchildren: Riley, Mya and Brecken; sisters: Linda and Eileen; a niece, Tricia (Dave); and a nephew, Garrett.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Brian Smith.
Gary was retired and enjoyed hunting, fishing and he was an avid Steelers fan. He always had a kind word and warm smile for others he met. He was always ready to listen and ask about their day. His compassionate nature and genuine curiosity made him a beloved friend to many.
He was a proud veteran that honorably served in the United States Air Force.
Friends will be received from 10 am until the 11 am Celebration of Life service on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona. Interment will be made at Carson Valley Cemetery, Duncansville.
