It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Creighton at the age of 87.
Gary was the beloved husband of Jean Creighton, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on family, service, faith, and community. He is survived by his loving wife Jean; his three children, Cindy Antonik, Andy Creighton, and Tom Creighton; and two cherished grandchildren.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he pursued higher education, graduating from Pennsylvania State University and California University of Pennsylvania. He went on to dedicate much of his professional life to education, teaching drafting and photography at Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School, where he influenced and inspired generations of students.
In retirement, Gary remained deeply involved in his community. He volunteered his time helping restore a historic PRR K4 steam locomotive, reflecting his lifelong passion for the Pennsylvania Railroad and railroad history. He also volunteered as a driver for Blair Senior Services and contributed his time to the Altoona Food Bank.
Gary had a love for travel and adventure and especially enjoyed rafting and skiing. He was a devoted member of Wesley United Methodist Church, 58th Street United Methodist Church, and Juniata United Methodist Church.
Gary will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to others, quiet service, and deep love for his family and community. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends will be received from 11 am to 12 pm on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Juniata United Methodist Church, 808 N 4th Street, Altoona, 16601 where a funeral service will immediately follow at 12 pm with Pastor Denise Haskins officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery.
