Fred F. Putt, Jr.

Fred F. Putt, Jr., 79, Altoona, passed away Sunday, surrounded by his family, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born in Indiana, PA, son of the late Fred F. and Kathryn (Nichols) Putt. On July 29, 1967, he married Susan Miller.

In addition to his wife, Susan; he is survived by a son, Kevin A. Putt (Dayna) of Tyrone; a daughter, Julie A. Sanders (Frank) of Altoona; granddaughters: Samantha M. Wright (William) of Altoona, Ashley L. Eastep of Williamsburg and Courtney E. Putt of Altoona; great grandchildren: Jordan Bishop and Mila Fawks; and a brother, Jeffery Putt (Sandra).

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Kathryn Conner and Rosella Mae Banfield.

Fred was a 1963 graduate of Altoona High School. He retired from Norfolk Southern as a Road Foreman, and was the engine driver in the movie “Unstoppable”.

He was a member of the Jaffa Shrine Center, Logan Lodge No. 490, F&AM, Jaffa Shriners, Jaffa Mounted Patrol, Jaffa Legion of Honor, Colotic Miztil No. 91 – Order of Quetzalcoatl, Altoona Court No. 70 – Royal Order of Jesters, Cumberland Claw No. 8, Mountain Chapter No. 564 – National Sojourners, Roberdeau Camp – Heroes of ’76.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding horses, and most importantly, spending time with his family.

He served in the US Marines. He was a Vietnam Vet.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4^th Avenue, Altoona. Friends will also be received from 10 to 11 am on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at the funeral home where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will take place at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona, with military honors.
