Cleatis M. “Cleat” Eichelberger, 87, of Altoona, died peacefully on Thursday at Mrs. Bush’s Personal Care Home, Kunkletown, PA surrounded by his family. He was born in Juniata, a son of the late William Alvin and Margaretta Hilda (Swartz) Eichelberger. He married Shirley A. Garlick on November 16, 1956, in Altoona. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, two sons, Stanley Melvin (Sara), of Greenwich, OH, and Cleatis Allen (Susan Gormley), of East Norriton, PA, one daughter, Wendi Miller (Jim Wharton) of Effort, PA, 4 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Cleat was preceded in death by one brother, William Alvin, Jr., and two stepsisters, Margaret Moore and Jane Myer. He retired from Gearhart Moving & Storage as an Operations Manager and Furniture Mover with 53 ½ years service. He was a 1953 graduate of Altoona High School and a veteran of the United States Army, serving from1957 to 1959. Cleat was a prior member of the Horseshoe Drifters and Allegheny Mountain Campers. He enjoyed crafts, constructing stained glass objects, and being Happy the Clown, Professor Balloonology. Friends will be received Monday, March 14, 2022, from 2 until the 4 p.m. Funeral Service will follow immediately at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., Juniata. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
