Carol L. Carter

Carol L. Carter, 82, Altoona, passed away Thursday at Homewood Living Martinsburg.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Walter and Charlotte (Spalding) Beckel.

On June 17, 1978, she married William T. Carter in Altoona. He preceded her in death on March 17, 2024.

She is survived by a daughter, Melissa Berard of Pittsburgh; a step-daughter, Jennifer Galanick (Joseph) or Sterling, VA; a step-son, Thad Carter (Yvonne) of Altoona; step-granddaughters: Courtney Carter and Kirsten (Carter) Berger (Joe); and siblings: Judith Peistrup in Indiana, Donna Lechner of Johnstown and Richard Beckel (Barbara) in Florida.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Walter Beckel.

Carol was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1963 graduate of Temple University School of Nursing.

After 43 years of service, she retired as an operating room nurse from the Altoona Hospital.

She was a member of Juniata United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, reading and caring for her animals.

Friends and family will be received from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona. Family and friends will also be received from 10 to 11 am on Wednesday, October 1 at Juniata United Methodist Church, 808 N 4th Street, Altoona where a funeral service will immediately follow at 11 am with Pastor Denise Haskins officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery.
