Carl R. Hedberg, Sr., 88, of Altoona, peacefully passed away at his home on January 10, 2026. Born in Altoona, he was the son of the late Carl Nils Eric and Helen May (Clabaugh) Hedberg.
On December 7, 1969, Carl married Sharon L. Gorman in Harrisburg, and they celebrated 56 years of marriage. Carl is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon, along with two sons, Carl R. Hedberg, Jr. of Altoona and Chris Hedberg of Altoona; two daughters, Kimberly Custer (Rocky) and Erica Hedberg Quinn (Charles); as well as numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: David, Thomas, and Kathryn.
Carl retired in the late 1990s from the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg, where he served as the Director of Exhibits. He was known as a jack of all trades, with a passion for carpentry, and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Music played a significant role in his life; he was a member of the Tyrone Community Choir, where he shared his love of singing.
Additionally, Carl was involved with the AMP NIMRODS, a group of friends from AMP Corporation, where he worked as a designer and inventor in Harrisburg.
He served in the United States Navy.
At the request of the deceased, no public services will be held.
