Bernard "Bernie" Ross Campbell

August 16, 1934 — February 26, 2023

Bernard Ross “Bernie” Campbell, 88, Hollidaysburg, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ early Sunday morning. He was born in Altoona, son of the late William M. and Esther Chloe (McConahy) Campbell. On June 21, 1958, he married Dolores L. Graf in Winchester, VA. In addition to his wife, Dolores, of nearly 65 years; he is survived by four children: Ronald Ake of Altoona, Derek Campbell (Linda) of Chambersburg, Jody Kurtz (Tom) of Altoona and Troy Campbell (Jodie) of Duncansville; nine grandchildren: Benjamin and Courtney, Abigail, Jacob and Nathan, and Jalen, Bryce, Chase and Oni; eight great grandchildren: Jordan and Kalani, Mila and Juniper, Gus, Beckett and Carter, and Winter; and two sisters: Alice Swab (Ted) and Laura Jean McKinney (Will). He was preceded in death by two brothers: William “Bill” Campbell and George Richard “Dick” Campbell. Bernie was a 1952 graduate of the Altoona High School. He earned an MS Electrical Engineering Degree from PSU. He also had a Master's Degree in Religious Education from Liberty University and graduated from Grace-School of the Bible. He was a certified Biblical Counselor with the National Association of Nouthetic Counseling. He retired as an Assistant Professor of Engineering from Penn State University in 1991. He began his career at PSU in 1959 in the Electrical Engineering Department where he worked with the University's first Digital Computer referred to as PENNSTAC. He left PSU in 1966 to work at HRB Singer as a Design Engineer for two years. He then taught at the Altoona Area Vo-Tech School for a year prior to teaching at PSU Altoona Campus. Professor Campbell was group leader of the Electrical Engineering Technology Program and past-President of the Altoona Engineering Society and a member of the American Society of Engineering Educators. Bernie enjoyed sports, especially coaching and watching his children and grandchildren play. He loved his Lord and loved to read the King James Version of the Bible. He was a member of Grace Alice Church in the Greenwood Plaza. He served in the National Guard from 1957 to 1963. Friends will be received from 10 am to 11 am on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata, where a memorial service will be held at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg, 916 Hickory Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
