Charles W. "Buss" Bennett

April 12, 1927 — June 13, 2014

Charles W. (Buss) Bennett, 87, of Altoona, died Friday morning at the Altoona Center for Nursing Center. He was born in Altoona a son of the late Charles W. Bennett, Sr and Catherine (Stephens) Bennett He married Joann Dinges on December 24, 1960 in Cumberland, Maryland. Surviving is his wife of more than 52 years, one son, Steve Bennett and wife, Donna, of Altoona, three grandchildren, Holly Garner and husband Thad, Nicky Garner and husband Shane, Justin Bennett and eight great grandchildren, Thad, Jr., Lauren, Peyton, Jackson, Colton, Dylan, Abby and Shane. He was preceded in death by one brother, Don Livingstone, three sisters, Catherine (Sis) Evans, Aletta McConnell and Arlene Fisher. Buss retired from the Blair County Sheriffs Office after 22 years service. He was one of three that graduated from the first Deputy Sheriffs Training School at Dickinson College in Carlisle. Prior to that the worked for more than 34 years as a bricklayer for Robison & Rider and then Tab Scarfone. His hobbies included woodworking and gardening. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8pm Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., Juniata. A funeral service will be held at 11am Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Dr., Mlen-Too Wesley, officiating. Interment at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Juniata Presbyterian Church, 522 N. 7th Street, Altoona, PA 16601 or the Home Nursing Agency, Hospice Unit, P.O. Box 352, Altoona, PA 16603-9928.
