Evelyn T Eck

Evelyn T. "Lynn" Eck, 86, Altoona, went to her eternal rest on Tuesday. Formerly of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Westwood, N.J., she was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late George E. and Helen (Werner) Ryan. She married Charles J. Eck on July 2, 1950, and together they raised six children. He preceded her in death on June 4, 2007. Surviving are two daughters: Linda Irvin (Daniel) of Altoona and Diane Angell (Brian) of Warrensburg, N.Y.; three sons: Richard (Maureen) of Altoona, James (Janet) of Bergenfield, N.J., and Donald (Karen) of Westwood, N.J.; and 15 grandchildren: Matthew Irvin of New York City, Amanda Petrecca (Michael), Tim Eck, Ryan Eck, Brandon Eck and Alyson Eck of Altoona, Austin Eck of San Francisco, Calif., Desiree Eck of Sacramento, Calif., Kelly Angell and Julie Angell of Warrensburg, N.Y., Christopher Eck (Sara) of New City, N.Y., Danielle Eck of Westwood, N.J., Jamielyn Eck of Bergenfield, N.J., and Julie Eck and Jenna Eck of Emerson, N.J. She is also survived by her beautiful redheaded great-grandbabies: Anberlyn and Brooklyn Petrecca of Altoona. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; three brothers: George, Arthur, and William; and a sister, Mary. Lynn graduated from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in New Jersey and spent her professional career caring for numerous private-duty patients, from whom she received many letters of gratitude and accolades for such kind and wonderful care. She continued to work until the age of 75. Lynn loved the beach, the sun and walking her many pets over the years. She enjoyed dancing, knitting and crocheting and sang in her church choir while living in Florida. She was an avid shopper, often bestowing her purchases on family members. She will always be known for her generosity and her never-ending support and devotion to her children. She was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2014, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, where a prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014, at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, 2301 Fifth St., Altoona, Father D. Timothy Grimme officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in Lynn's memory.
