Robert L Whitfield

Robert L. Whitfield, 86, Altoona, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Tuesday morning at Golden Living Center at Hillview. He was the son of the late William E. and Olive J. (Drenning) Whitfield. He was twice married, first to Charlotte M. Fletcher on September 9, 1950 in Altoona who preceded him in death September 1, 1985. He later married Betty J. Salsgiver on October 20, 2004. Robert was a 1946 graduate of Altoona Area High School and a member of the Grace Brethren Church, Juniata. He enjoyed visiting the sick and shut-ins and shared his love of the Lord with many. He was also a car buff and enjoyed motorcycle riding with Freddy Simm. He was a sales representative with 43 years of service, for the Stevens Company and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from November 1, 1950 to October 16, 1952 in Germany. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter: Beth Ann Cates and husband Charlie of Altoona; one son: William R. and wife Linda of Bedford; six granddaughters: Lori, Kelly, Michelle, Stephanie, Rebecca, and Erica; ten great grandchildren; Connor, Seth, Clay, Gavin, Katelyn, Laura, Danielle, Christopher, Nadia, and Jaidon; four step children: Cindy Salsgiver, Robert Salsgiver and wife Jan, Susan Conzo and husband Ron, and Steven Salsgiver; ten step grandchildren: Betty, Mark, Stephanie, Kristina, Joshua, Nathan, Ronald, Brittany, Alyssa, and Zachary; eight step great grandchildren: Bill, Robert, Dane, Sydney, Madison, Payton, Elijah, and Bethany; one sister: Barbara Miller of Altoona; and one brother: Barry A. of Altoona. He was a loving husband, dedicated father, and grandfather. Family and friends will be received, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, Friday, October 3, and from 10 until the 11am funeral service Saturday, October 4, 2014, at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona with Pastor Rod Lingenfelter and Pastor Robert Salsgiver officiating. Interment at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Brethren Church, 109 West 14th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601.
