Ruth Alice Laird

Ruth A. Laird, 94, Altoona, passed away early Saturday morning at J.C. Blair Hospital in Huntingdon. Born in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Genette and Lela Rebecca Painter. She married Castle Laird, in Hollidaysburg, PA in January of 1946, who preceded her in death on October 3, 1988. Ruth is survived by one daughter: Pamela Laird, of Three Springs; one son: Scott Laird and wife Judith, of Columbus, OH; eight grandchildren: Christine Laird, Stephanie McClannan, Becky Laird, Rex Kovalcik, Virginia Robison, Stacey Newland, Brett Laird, and Tiffany Laird; two great-grandchildren: Samantha Laird and Kazriem; one daughter-in-law: Donna J. Laird, of GA; and numerous nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Carol J. Laird, in 2010; one son: Gregory A. Laird, in 2012; one sister: Helen Hengst; and one brother: John "Sonny" Genette. Ruth was a member of Schum Memorial United Methodist Church, a homemaker, and enjoyed reading, gardening, and the outdoors. Friends will be received, Wednesday, January 7, from 5 to 8 PM and Thursday, January 8, from 10 until the 11 AM funeral service, at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, Juniata, with Reverend Robert Wharton officiating. Interment at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made in honor of Ruth to the American Cancer Society, Blair Unit, 1004 North Juniata Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
