S. Verna Smith

S. Verna Smith, 100, Duncansville, went to be with the Lord Thursday evening at Homewood at Martinsburg. She was born in Claysburg, a daughter of the late Thomas and Susan (Walter) Walter. She married Homer C. Smith on May 7, 1936 in Cumberland, MD. He preceded her in death on August 3, 1976. Verna is survived by a son, Homer of Duncansville and numerous nieces and nephews, including Ken Smith and wife Ruth of Duncansville. She was preceded in death by siblings: Ruth, Clara, Florence, John, Warren, Pearl, and Juniata; and half-brothers: Francis and Ralph. Verna was a graduate of Claysburg High School and attended the Dry Run Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed baking and cooking. Friends will be received, Monday, April 13, from 11 until the 1 PM funeral service at Mauk and Yates Funeral Home, 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata, with Pastor John Leatherman officiating. Interment at Carson Valley Cemetery.
