Betty Ann Karen (Northway) Gibbons

June 12, 1936 — December 15, 2017

Betty Ann Karen (Northway) Gibbons, 81, formerly of Altoona, passed away Friday at the Allegheny Lutheran Home, Hollidaysburg. She was born in Minneapolis, MN, daughter of the late Charles and Marie (Johnson) Northway. She married Dr. William Port Gibbons in 1958. He preceded her in death in 2011.

Surviving are her children: Jennifer Marie Gibbons of Altoona, William Charles Gibbons and his wife Deanna of Altoona; two grandchildren: Adam Gibbons and Liam Gibbons, both of Altoona; and two sisters: Sharon Mattson and Linda Kosfeld, both of Minnesota. She was preceded by two sisters, Darlene Erickson and Kathleen Culver.

Betty graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minnesota, and then graduated from Nursing School as a Registered Nurse, after which serving in the U.S. Navy. Betty retired from Garvey Manor Nursing Home as a RN Supervisor. She was a homemaker and was active over the years at Evangelical Methodist Church on Oak Ave in Altoona, having served as past Treasurer. She was a life member of the Hollidaysburg Sportsman Club, and was an avid skeet shooter, having been the past holder of the Ladies PA State Championship title. She enjoyed music, playing the organ over the years, was an accomplished seamstress, and an avid artist. She was a student of Middle Eastern dance, and enjoyed continuing collegiate level education.

Friends will be received from 5-8 PM Monday, December 18, 2017, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc. where a funeral service will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, December 19, with Dave Butterbaugh, officiating. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mending Hearts Animal Rescue.
