Stanley J. Monahan

Stanley J. “Pete” Monahan, 90, Altoona, passed away Tuesday afternoon at Homewood at Martinsburg.

He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Leo Cletus and Susan Louise (Gutshall) Monahan. On June 11, 1949, he married Thelma “Louise” Thomas at Grace Methodist Church in Altoona. She preceded him in death on March 11, 2013.

Stanley is survived by a daughter, Susan Beck and husband Perry; two sons: Wayne Monahan and wife Gail, and Stephen Monahan and wife Beth, all of Altoona; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian (Monahan) Stere.

Pete was a 1945 graduate of Altoona High School and retired in May of 1988 from Butterick Pattern Co. where he worked as a Pressman.

Pete was a passionate bowler, a member of the Bowlers Hall of Fame, many bowling leagues, and the Men’s Bowling Association. For many years, Pete was a bowling instructor for the Saturday Jr. Bowling Leagues at the Pleasant Valley Bowling Center. After retirement, Pete volunteered at the Altoona Hospital, he was recognized for his years of service and was a leader at the hospital PEPPI exercise class.

He serviced in the U.S. Army Air Corp.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Monday, January 29. Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
