Dorothy James Lindemer

April 16, 1925 — August 31, 2018

   Dorothy James Lindemer, 93, died Friday evening, August 31, 2018, at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, surrounded by her loving family and closely attended by the Sisters and the wonderful staff at Garvey Manor who treated her as their own family.
   She was born in the Juniata section of Altoona, a daughter of the late Isaac W. and Alverda K. (Shaner) Franell.  She married Charles E. James on May 14, 1944 by Pastor Utts in Juniata.  Charles preceded her in death on October 26, 1967.
   Surviving are two sons; Ronald B. James and wife Linda of Altoona, Kenneth E. James and wife Tonya of Duncansville, two daughters; Barbara S. James of Jacksonville, FL and Marjorie A. Closson and husband John of Altoona; nine grandchildren; Amy, Eric, Becky, Michael, Sharlene, Janelle, Rob, Kevin and Cory; 11 great grandchildren; Sara, Zach, Casey, Morgan, Makenzie, Marli, Ryan, Colin, Maya, Maria and Haley.  She was preceded in death by one sister, Edna I. Steward and two grandchildren, Melissa J. Closson and Brett A. James.
   Dorothy graduated in 1943 from Altoona High School and retired in 1985 from Mercy Hospital with 22 years service.  She's been a member of the Altoona Seventh Day Adventist Church since March 1950, serving as treasurer, children's Sabbath school teacher, head of the Community Service Department, Pathfinder Leader, and Deaconess.  Dorothy also was a member of the United Trainman's Union Auxiliary and American Association of Retired Persons.  She also bowled on the Tuesday Night Inner City Bowling League at the Pleasant Valley Recreation Center in Altoona.
   Dorothy lived her life to the fullest.  She enjoyed being outdoors; hiking, swimming, watching the clouds change shapes while relaxing outdoors, or just walking. In her later years, she would exercise 3 days a week with the Silver Sneakers at the Summit in Altoona.  She especially loved being with her family and traveling.  She would relax crocheting, sewing and mostly knitting her famous dish cloths that she handed out to everyone she knew.  She was an avid reader and read her Bible cover to cover several times.
   Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2018 and from 10-11am Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., Juniata.
A funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at the funeral home, with Pastor Bob Snyder, officiating.  Interment at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
