James D. "Jim" Hillard

July 7, 1932 — October 4, 2018

James D. “Jim” Hillard, 86, Altoona, passed away early Thursday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late David D and Cecelia M. (Rutter) Hillard. He married Mary K. (Antes) June 12, 1953, at Wesley Methodist Church in Juniata.

Surviving is his wife Mary of 65 years; his son James D. Hillard, Jr., of Lancaster, his daughter Kathy Millward of Altoona, his son Matt Hillard (Edith) of Frederick, Md.; five granddaughters: Jamie Millward, Dawn Hillard, Katie Millward, Laura Hillard, and Jade Hillard; his great grandson Andrew Hillard, and his brother Stanley Hillard (Lois).

He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Bob and Kay Hillard.

Jim retired in 1987 from Bell Telephone/AT&T as a Network Supervisor after 33 years of service. He served in the U.S. Airforce, and was a graduate of Altoona Area High School, class of 1950. He was a member of Juniata United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and Bible study for many years. He was also a member of the Greenwood Lions, the Lighthouse Fellowship, and had served at Blair Senior Services as a volunteer and also on the Board of Directors. He was a member of Blair County Game, Fish, and Forestry, and the Spring Lake Sportsmen’s Association. He enjoyed Altoona Curve baseball, fishing, hunting, and especially spending time with his family.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday, October 7, 2018, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, and from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral service Monday, October 8, at Juniata United Methodist Church, with Pastor Julie Piper, officiating. Interment at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Juniata United Methodist Church.
