Doris J. Blackburn

January 3, 1926 — October 4, 2018

Doris J. Blackburn, 92, Carlisle, PA, formerly of Altoona, PA, passed away Thursday morning at Church of God Home in Carlisle, PA.

She was born in Wood, PA, a daughter of the late Benton L. and Grace (Price) Gutshall. On February 17, 1942, she married Ira (Blackie) Blackburn in Roaring Spring, PA. He preceded her in death on September 29, 2006.

Doris is survived by a daughter, Linda Duncan, of Lake Frederick, VA; grandchildren: Gregory  Blackburn, Michele Elliott, Michael Dorazio, Geff Blackburn, Gina Homan, Nicole Weise, and Ashley Dillen; two step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and two sisters: Dorothy Gehret and Maxine Adams, both of Altoona.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Blackburn and a son, Gary Blackburn. Doris' siblings, Esther Gutshall, Lester Gutshall, Vernon Gutshall, Vance Gutshall, Robert (Geech) Gutshall, Ruth McPherson, Emma Burk and Jerry Gutshall, also preceded her in death.

Doris was a member of First Church of God and owned The Book Corner, a used book store that she operated alongside her husband Blackie.  Doris and Blackie were also very active in the flea market business for many years.

Doris loved traveling, especially to the beach, and spent many summers traveling with her family to Florida. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, reading the Bible, and attending worship.

Friends will be received on Thursday October 11, 2018 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Juniata with Pastor Charles Riley officiating. Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona, PA.
