Robert LeRoy Carles

Robert LeRoy “Lefty” Carles, 89, Altoona, passed away Wednesday evening at his home.
He was born in Altoona, son of Isabelle Carles. On March 1, 1951, he married M. Katharyne (Kitty) Boland, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 19, 2000.
Surviving are three children: Katharyne (Kitten) Wilson and Terri Carles, both of Altoona, and Barry Carles and wife Melissa, in Arizona; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a sister, Maxine Yeager of Chambersburg; and an uncle, Gene Carles of Huntingdon.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert "Robbie" Carles.
Lefty served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a sergeant and a member of the military police in Japan.
He worked as a Supervisor for Veeder Root. He enjoyed bowling, and later in life became an avid golfer. He was a lifelong member of the Iron Masters Association.
Friends will be received from 9 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
