Wilbert L Green

Wilbert L. “Bert” Green, 71, Altoona, passed away early Thursday morning at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Roy and Louise (Freeman) Green. He married Bonnie David July 20, 1996.

Surviving is his wife Bonnie; his step-daughter Summer Tomlinson, his sister Kathy Sweitzer, his brothers Lou Green and Robert Pavlovich, brother in law Jeff David (Sherry), sister in law Melissa David-Bailey (Raife), his aunt Maxine “Mickey” Cover, (who helped to raise him along with his grandmother Mimi and grandfather “Pap” Joe); five cousins: Mary Marin (Goose), Joe Cover (Joy), Glenn Cover (Diane), Carol Books (Dave), and Mike Cover (Faye), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bert was a graduate of Altoona Catholic High School (Now BG). He retired from the U.S. Air Force after over 20 years of service, and then went on to work at Sel-Lo Oil, Siemens, and part time at Altoona Pipe and Steel. He had attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and was a past Commander and Quarter Master of the Juniata VFW Fort Apache, and was member of many clubs, including the Bavarian Aid Society, the Catholic War Veterans, the American Legion, Post 516, the Military Order of the Cootie of the U.S., the Swiss Club, the Cesare Battisti, St. Stans, the Moose Lodge # 74, the Unter Uns, and the Newburg Fire Association.

He enjoyed American Bandstand, karaoke, golfing, bowling, playing softball on the Siemens company softball team, and loved “the girls”—his dogs Lexus, Princess, and Bella. He also enjoyed his daily newspaper and TV shows with any judges, as well as westerns and the show Love Boat.
There will be a celebration of life for Bert at a later date.
